Why Central Ohio homes end up with hard water
Most of the ground water under Franklin, Delaware, Licking and Union counties runs through limestone before it ever reaches a well or a treatment plant. Limestone gives water calcium and magnesium, and those two minerals are what we mean when we say water is hard. They are the reason a shower door films over a week after you scrub it and the reason laundry comes out stiff no matter how much detergent goes in.
A water softener trades those hardness minerals for a small amount of sodium as the water passes through a bed of resin. What separates one softener from another is how well it does that job, and how much salt and water it burns through doing it.
What makes a Kinetico different
Kinetico softeners are non-electric. There is no timer, no circuit board, and nothing to plug in. The system is driven by the pressure of the water moving through it, so a summer storm that knocks the power out does not put your softener into a fault code.
They are also twin-tank. One tank is always in service while the other is on standby, so the moment the working tank has treated its measured volume, the system switches over and cleans the spent tank. You get soft water at every hour, including the hours a single-tank system would spend out of service.
The regeneration itself is metered on volume, not on a clock. A timer softener cleans on a schedule whether the household used forty gallons that day or four hundred, so it either wastes salt on a quiet week or runs out of capacity on a busy one. A Kinetico counts gallons and regenerates when the gallons say so. Guests for the weekend, a week away at the lake: the system adjusts on its own.
Every one of these is built in Newbury, Ohio, about two and a half hours northeast of Columbus.
