The problem
Different problems, different equipment
A water softener removes hardness, and that is all it removes. Iron, sulfur, chlorine, sediment and acidic water are separate problems with separate chemistry, and pushing them through a softener fixes nothing while wearing the softener out early.
Specialty treatment is the family of whole house systems built for those jobs. Which one belongs in your home depends entirely on what your water test finds, which is why we test before we recommend anything at all.

The problems these systems solve
Every system goes at the point of entry, so the whole house gets the benefit, not just one tap.
Iron and manganese
Orange staining in tubs and laundry, and water that tastes faintly metallic. An iron filter catches both before they reach a single fixture, and protects any softener installed behind it.
Sulfur smell
The rotten egg smell is hydrogen sulfide gas dissolved in the water. A sulfur filter removes it where the line enters the house, so every tap smells like nothing at all.
Chlorine and chloramine
City water arrives disinfected, and you can often taste it. A dechlorination system takes the chlorine out after it has done its job, along with the taste, the smell and the dry skin.
Sediment and acidic water
Grit collecting in aerators calls for sediment filtration. Blue-green staining means acidic water is slowly dissolving your copper plumbing, and a neutralizer stops that at the source.

Private wells in the counties around Columbus routinely carry iron, sulfur, sediment and hardness at the same time. The order of equipment matters: sediment ahead of the iron filter, the iron filter ahead of the softener, so each stage protects the one behind it.

The test decides, not the catalog
Two homes on the same road can draw completely different water. The test tells us what is in yours and how much of it, and the equipment is matched to those numbers. If a single problem filter does the job, that is what we recommend.
