What the test tends to find here
Columbus city water arrives disinfected with chlorine, which protects it in the pipes and flavors it at the tap. City and well water alike carry the dissolved minerals this part of Ohio is known for, and well water adds its own variables, iron and sulfur most often.
None of it is exotic, and all of it shows up in a twenty minute test. The K5's filter set is then built from those results, which is the difference between filtering your water and filtering water in general.
How it works
Four stages between the pipe and your glass
Prefiltering
Sediment and carbon catch particles and take out the chlorine taste city water often carries. That protects the membrane and improves everything downstream.
The membrane
Household pressure pushes water through openings so fine that most of what is dissolved in the water cannot follow. What stays behind is rinsed to the drain instead of collecting inside the system.
Storage
Treated water gathers in a tank under the sink so there is always some ready. Filling a stock pot feels no different from using any other tap.
The final polish
One last carbon pass happens on the way to the faucet, a finishing step just before your glass.
